Hello everyone! This school holiday I went to Cairns with some friends and family, to see The Great Barrier Reef. I hope you enjoy my recount about it.
From Melbourne we went to Cairns by plane and from there, we took a ferry to the Great Barrier Reef. In the middle of the Reef, there was a platform where the ferry docked. We had a scrumptious lunch there and then climbed into a submarine. Everyone in the submarine watched in awe as colourful fishes and coral surrounded us. We took lots of pictures of the magnificent view.
After the submarine, we changed into stinger suits and put on snorkelling gear, before a guide escorted us to the snorkelling platform. We held on to a safety tube as fishes came close to us and coral swayed in the water. It was an amazing experience.
Do you know that Great Barrier Reef is the largest living structure on earth, encompassing 344,400 square kilometres? It is so enormous that it can be seen from the space as well. The Great Barrier Reef is a citadel of limestone and silica regenerating during most interglacial periods. Over 9,000 recorded marine species have been spotted there to date, including coral, fish, crustaceans and molluscs.
We spent 2-3 hours enjoying the deep rainbow of coral and marine life. Finally it was time to say goodbye to the wondrous reef, I would never forget.
